This project, as a family house, is located in a peaceful, predominantly residential part of an industrial region in Mahshar Port. Its 730m2 total site area is located on humid climate which has had such residential contexture before; but it has changed during years. We were asked to design and build the project on March 2013.

The client asked for a two level house, which its public area is placed on the ground floor, interacting with open space, and private area being set at the upper floor. Its 500m2 total floor area is distributed to appropriate living room, two bedrooms, kitchen and dining room on ground floor, and four bedrooms with service spaces on the first floor.

They also wished every single bedrooms to connect by using the same toilet, bathroom and walking closet.

The concept of the project was formed by the orthogonal scheme with various distances, pursuing both the client’s needs, and creating the architectural spaces.

We divided the green area to northern and southern part by locating the house in the center of the site that creates opportunity to access surrounding area for both sides of the building.

The building has taken some distance from east and west side of the site to have the possibility to get natural sunlight and let the sunrays to run through the whole surrounding area freely.

Simplicity and legibility for respecting the campus was one of our aim in this project. On the other hand limited budget of the client made the team to run the project by minimum price and a simple configuration became an agenda.

At first, by considering the site conditions like hot and humid climate, Intensity of light, etc; we decide to supply first floor’s natural light indirectly by terrace windows and equilibrate it by vegetation on the ground floor. But eventually based on strong demand of client, several openings were added on first floor’s main facades which were limited by sunshades to adjust environmental conditions.

The façade of project is formed by cement with appropriate Coating and continuous Concrete plinth which has been added by first floor’s sunshades and Vertical louvers of eastern and western’s terrace. These louvers can not only be opened and closed by users but also supplying shadows and providing privacy.

In this project we tried to keep the relation between interior spaces and semi-open spaces with courtyard on the ground floor and so between outside and terraces on the first floor. So that, on first floor every single room has direct connection with a terrace. Furthermore all main and secondary spaces contains natural sunlight and air.

In order to decrease expenses, reinforced concrete with lattice joists roof was chosen as structure of the project. Dimensions of columns designed in a way that they inscribed by walls so that we can see no columns in interior spaces.

Because of simplicity in structure and façade’s continuity roof openings in eastern and western terrace are created by main beam and column.

There is the possibility of natural ventilation in the main spaces in appropriate seasons of year but in warm seasons due to high temperature and humidity using of mechanical systems is inevitable so by using duct split this need was met.
